A Passionate Sports Nutritionist
Anna-Maria Volanaki is a registered sports nutritionist (SENr, BDA, INDI, Practitioner Registrant) and a sports scientist (member of the Exercise is Medicine Greece). She has graduated from Oxford Brookes University with an MSc degree in Applied Sports and Exercise Nutrition and from National and Kapodistrian University of Athens with a BSc degree in Physical Education and Sports Science. She had two university specializations; one in ”Wellness and Health” and one in ”Coaching Artistic Swimming”. Moreover, during her studies -and from a very young age-, Anna-Maria realized the importance of nutrition, physiology, exercise and psychology, and how these principles can affect a person’s life and an athlete’s performance. When these principles are properly applied to each individual, then this person can succeed in becoming the best version of him/herself.
Anna-Maria grew up in the beautiful island of Greece, Crete, and was immersed in the Mediterranean diet and way of living from a very young age. She was an overweight child herself, but the fact that she started participating in a competitive sport (Artistic Swimming) and started having healthier eating routines from a very young age made her understand -very well- that consistency is the key when you want to maintain a normal body weight and be healthy for a lifetime. These influences led her to her decision to study these two degrees -sports nutrition and sports science. Her aim is to try to help every individual, by adjusting their routines and making them acquire healthier eating and fitness habits, along with good mental health and healthy life patterns.
As a sports nutritionist, she has helped young and competitive athletes to further improve their performance, as well as individuals who want to start and sustain a more active lifestyle. She believes that education is a priority if you truly want to change your habits for the better. Anna-Maria works with individuals by introducing them to the benefits of healthy eating, healthy cooking, hydration, sports nutrition, as well as by showing people the benefits each type of exercise can offer to their body. She can also help you create vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, gluten-free, and high-in-protein balanced meal plans, as well as Mediterranean diet-based menus.
Anna-Maria’s work experience:
She has worked as a nutritionist and scientific advisor for a variety of companies, e.g. Akis Petretzikis Ltd, Natare West London and Nutricentre Ltd (part of Tesco PLC). She has handled lots of different responsibilities, such as calculating the caloric content for over 5000 different recipes (was featured on Nutritics as a case study), where she followed the EU legislations, labelling policies and compliance. She has also written a variety of blogs regarding nutrition, wellness and exercise, always based on current research.
Anna-Maria is very professional and charismatic; a person who massively appreciates the value of life. That’s why she truly tries to persuade every person she works with, to become the best version of themselves and to achieve and master their vitality. She knows very well how to engage with people while helping them to improve their health and way of life. She continues her training by studying and attending further CPDs.
Yoga is another passion of her life, where she has received two teaching certificates (Level 3 Yoga Teaching Qualification-Drummond Education and 200-Hour Multistyle Yoga Teacher Training Course, Kashish Yoga). Anna-Maria believes that by keeping your spine flexible and your body active, you won’t have to grow up not even a day in your life.
Anna-Maria is a very passionate individual with an enquiring mind and a genuine interest in health, nutrition, diet, positive mood, and physical activity.
